Read the following information. Art criticism is a way of evaluating (judging) an artwork. Criticism is not something to be scared of! It is something to look forward to, because criticism helps artists improve their techniques and ideas. There are four steps to art criticism, and it is important to follow them in order. Observation In the observation step, you observe the artwork thoroughly.
In the analysis step, you analyze what you observed.
In the interpretation step, you explain what the artist is telling in their artwork.
Art Criticism QuestionsRespond to the following questions about the information above.
"I like this artwork. I think the artist is telling the story of how she feels like she has two different sides. It is very moody and I like the colors." 5. Write your own art criticism for the painting above. Make sure to cover every step, and make sure to write them in the proper order. Remember that next class there will be a presentation about your "Getting to Know You sculptures". It will be worth a TEST grade. You will need to say the following things during your presentation:
Rina holds up her sculpture so everyone in the class can see. "Hello everyone, my name is Rina. I have three pink arches because I have three brothers. I have an orange zigzag because I speak English and French. My favorite food is pizza, which is why there's a yellow zigzag here. I go to France every summer, so I put two red spirals over here." I also made up my own form. It's a blue wave, because I go to the beach when I'm in France and I love it." If you need to see the sheet that I put on the projector in class, click here! |
